| Creating Your Perfect Day...
From the moment he pops the question, until you say, "I Do," there seems to be an infinite number of things to do and plans to be made. There are many different websites out there that can provide you with a checklist from up to a year before your wedding until the day of. The following 10 steps can be used as a starting point. The individual details will remain up to you! 1. Set a date and then give yourself plenty of time to plan. If you can allow yourself at least one year to plan your wedding, you'll be able to take care of all the details and still be able to breathe easy. 2. Develop a system, that allows you to stay organized. A three ring binder, shoe box, or a folder with pockets is a way to keep all your wedding information together and organized. 3. Set a budget. There's no sense in fantasizing about ice castles or fireworks if it means you won't be able to afford it. Get everyone together who has a part in the finances of your wedding and discuss how formal and elaborate you want the wedding to be. 4. Make sure that after you've set your budget, you stick with it. Shop around, ask questions and try to get the best value for your dollar. Knowing the difference between finding a good deal and going too cheap is key in the planning stage. 5. Be sure to keep in mind what's important to you. Compromise will be necessary to keep costs under control, be prepared to identify the things that are important to the two of you and let go of the little things. 6. Compose a list of guests and decide who is going to be in the bridal party. Don't worry about seating arrangements until you've gotten the RSVP's. 7. Reserve your ceremony and reception site, caterer, hire a photographer and/or videographer, select your florist and book your DJ. Remember to stay within your budget, but don't ever settle for less than the best. (This is after all a very special day in your lives.) 8. Shop around for your wedding dress. 9. Eat right and get enough sleep. You are going to need all the energy you can get. Exercise and fun activities can help reduce your stress level and help you stay relaxed, yet focused. You won't get anywhere if you don't take care of yourself. 10. Last and certainly most important is to enjoy this time. Sure there is lots to do, but take pictures, buy a journal and write down the things that you do everyday. Five and ten years down the road you'll find the journal somewhere and reminisce on the anxious excitement that went into the life you have today. Make sure you take the time to relax each day with your fiancé. Planning a wedding should be fun! |
